Guide: how to play NanoSkyline
NanoSkyline is a free airline manager browser game with real airports and real aircraft types. This guide explains everything you need for your first round – readable without an account.
Last updated: November 2026
01The goal
Every round lasts 120 game days. One game day takes 4 hours of real time, so a round takes about 20 days. The airline with the highest company value on the last day wins.
- Company value = cash − loan + value of owned aircraft + value of hub buildings
- Stage results on days 30, 60 and 90 with cash prizes for places 1 to 3
- Leased aircraft do not count towards the company value, but they earn revenue
02Getting started
After signing up you found your airline: name, two-letter code and home airport. The stars next to each home airport show its market potential – more stars mean more demand nearby.
- €20 million starting capital
- 8 free slots at your home airport
- a free market study and two starter missions with rewards
Tip: start with two or three routes from your home airport and leased short- and medium-haul jets.
03Routes and fares
The market explorer shows demand, distance and competition between two cities. A route needs a slot at both airports and a suitable aircraft.
- You set Economy, Business and First fares; the price assistant suggests a good fare
- Demand per city pair is limited: competitors share it by fare, service and reliability
- More rotations per day mean more seats – but only if there are enough passengers
04Fleet: lease or buy
From turboprops to wide-bodies: every type has real range, seats and costs. Wide-body jets become available from day 18 of a round, the A380 from day 48. Also in the fleet: A220, 737 MAX and the A321XLR, a narrow-body that crosses the Atlantic.
- Leasing: low cost per day, but you need a reserve of 30 daily rates in your account
- Buying: a lot of capital at once, but the aircraft counts towards your company value and raises your credit line
- One aircraft flies one route; range and turnaround time decide what is possible
05Airports and slots
Away from your home airport you rent slots for a daily fee that rises with the airport size. The world grows with the number of airlines: new airports unlock and busy airports add capacity.
06Maintenance, defects and insurance
Every flight wears the aircraft. A C-check costs 1 % of the list price and keeps the aircraft on the ground for one day; set the maintenance threshold once and it runs automatically.
- Poor condition raises the risk of technical cancellations and compensation
- Rarely there are incidents up to a hull loss – always without injuries
- Hull insurance (required for leased aircraft) pays after a €100,000 deductible
07Expanding your hub
At your home airport you build in three levels: maintenance hangar, crew base, handling & catering, fuel farm share, lounge and transfer centre. They cut costs or raise demand and transfer traffic. Each build takes time; the build view shows cost, effect and payback.
08Bank and loans
Your credit line is €10 million plus 60 % of the value of your owned aircraft. The interest rate depends on your credit rating:
- A: 0.10 % per day · B: 0.15 % · C: 0.22 % · D: 0.30 %
- For comparison: leasing costs about 0.2 % per day
- If your balance goes negative, an emergency loan steps in automatically. With the line used up and the account negative for 7 days, the airline goes bankrupt.
09Missions, achievements and stages
Missions give you short goals with a cash reward, such as a new route, more passengers in one day or high reliability. Achievements mark milestones. On days 30, 60 and 90 stage results reward the top three.
10While you are offline
The world keeps running around the clock. You do not need to be online all the time: maintenance runs at your threshold, the price assistant adjusts fares and the overview shows “since your last visit”. Checking in once or twice a day is enough.
11Round end, career and hall of fame
At the end of the round the company value is scored. Places 1 to 3 get medals, the winner a trophy next to their name and a place in the hall of fame. Your career with rank, medals and statistics stays across all rounds, and you can keep your brand in the next round.
12Computer airlines (bots)
New worlds start with a few computer airlines so there is competition from day one. As real players join, surplus bots step aside: a world stays at about 10 airlines and at least 2 bots remain. Bots are marked in rankings and cannot win medals or hall-of-fame places.
13Free and fair
NanoSkyline is free to play. Credits only buy cosmetics and convenience – liveries, statistics, data export, season pass – never game advantages. There are no loot boxes; the contents and price of every offer are visible before you buy.
